Many webmasters buy PR for their site. They find a site that has a PR of 8 for example and buy a link to their site. After a while, your site ends up with a high(er) PR and you in turn can sell PR or the site in whole; provided the site you are buying from does not have Fake PR.

Buying PR is not something I recommend, but if you must, make sure the site you?re buying from does not Fake PR.

Let me first tell you how websites Fake PR, then I?ll explain how to detect Fake PageRank. Some of you may object to me making this information available, but trust me, the people who use this technique are well aware of it!

Faking Pagerank

Sites fake PR by looking for the Googlebot, then redirecting it to a high PR site, like Yahoo.com. Google sees that users actually land on Yahoo.com and the PR Bar in turn reflects the PR of the Yahoo.com rather than your site.
